PROFILE

Paul Mullins is a self taught digital, project based, landscape photographer currently living in Melbourne, Australia. Originally from Brisbane he has lived in most states of Australia and has worked and travelled in America, Europe and Asia. During his travels he developed a passion for photography. When at home he spends his time planning his next photography trip in his 4WD mainly exploring Victoria and Tasmania. He lives in Thornbury, north of Melbourne, with his wife Nicole and when not at home, or at a photography location, he can usually be found on one end of a fishing rod. Sometimes there is a fish on the other.

Paul’s reason for photography is that it privileges him to indulge in the solitude and beauty of nature through the creativity of artistic endeavour. It affords him the time to interact with and grow his creativity and capability without the noise of life.

As a project based landscape photographer he does not limit himself to landscape images but will capture beauty where and when it exists if it aligns with his vision. His vision is to capture, present and sell the highest quality prints he can produce with the detail and accuracy that is neither seen nor appreciated by most. Therefore he strives to produce art that is pleasing to himself and represents the best version of what he saw.

To achieve his vision he visits a location many times planning and testing data collection techniques required to capture the compositions for that project. His approach is to tell the story of a location through multiple images not a single frame.

A camera is a simple tool, it records data within technical limits. Once you educate yourself on the limits of a modern digital camera you can no longer choose purity as an excuse, you use technique to overcome limits. Some images cannot be taken in a single frame by any camera. The photographer has to decide when to reach beyond the single frame mentality of the technically uneducated to produce fine art.

He achieves his work within the limitations of his developing skill, technology, available time and uses his vision to provide direction in his selection of location, subject, equipment, post process, workflow and photography growth areas. He believes time is his most valuable asset and therefore his time is focused on his projects, not social platforms or popularising his art in any way that would distract time from his photography. Due to the detail and quality at scale in his printed product, most of his images only makes sense when presented large, and therefore he does not prioritise his time producing images for small screen platforms. He believes there is no justification for mediocrity, not price nor popularity.

His prints are available for purchase and are limited to ten images per composition. Each numbered image sold is uniquely stored as a separate high megapixel file with all edits, including sizing and paper adjustments, unique to that image.  Should one of his prints be damaged it can be reproduced on the same media. If you are interested in purchasing an image, use the information form below to contact him.
